The Secret of the Guaraní

The Echoes of Paraguay
Long before the world knew its name, the Guaraní guarded a secret.
It wasn’t gold, silver, or gemstones — it was Caña Paraguaya. Paraguayan rum.
El Supremo Rum is that legacy — perfected in the heart of South America, where earth, time, and tradition converge to create a spirit truly unlike any other.
From Paraguay’s fertile plains and the ancient wisdom of the Guaraní comes a rum born of soil, soul, and mastery.
The Birth of a Legacy
Over 500 years ago, Spanish Jesuits brought the craft of distillation to Paraguay. The Guaraní — guided by ñande reko, their profound “knowledge of the land” — transformed this skill into an art form deeply rooted in nature.
They discovered that ageing rum in barrels made from Incienso Marrón, a native hardwood, breathe life into the spirit — infusing it with warm earth, wild herbs, spice, and a whisper of smoke. This quiet alchemy, passed down through generations, became their hallmark.
From this sacred fusion emerged Caña Paraguaya — a rum made with passion, patience, and respect for nature. Today, El Supremo Rum carries this tradition forward, refined across generations and celebrated greatly from a distillery established in 1909.

From Cane to Honey
In Paraguay’s heartland, the land thrives on the pure waters of the Guaraní Aquifer, nurturing sugarcane of exceptional sweetness.
During the cool harvest months, each stalk is hand-cut at peak ripeness, crushed in time-worn mills, and slowly reduced over open fire into miel de caña — golden cane honey rich in aroma and complexity.
This living nectar rests for up to 12 months, deepening in flavour, before a gentle 72-hour fermentation — a slow bloom of ripe fruit, honey, and floral aromas that speak of heritage and land.
Ageing the Guaraní Way
The soul of El Supremo is shaped within barrels of Incienso Marrón — the only rum in the world to age in this rare Paraguayan hardwood. Each cask lends whispers of the forest, warm earth, spice, and soft smoke.
We remain faithful to the Guaraní method: first maturation in Incienso Marrón for depth and soul, followed by French oak for grace, structure, and lingering smoothness.
Our rums are static-aged, never solera, never blended away — so each batch tells its own authentic story. No additives, no colouring, no shortcuts. Only the cane, the wood, and time itself.

From Hidden Treasure to the World
For over a century, this Guaraní secret remained in Paraguay, quietly distilled and quietly enjoyed. Today, El Supremo Rum carries it to the world — bottled in France, awarded on international stages, and sought by connoisseurs all over the world.

From the approachable 5-Year-Old to the rare and luxurious 18-Year-Old, each expression is a chapter in the same enduring story: Paraguayan rum is unlike any other.
